Over the years, much has been written about Cannes and Aishwarya Rai's Red Carpet appearances.
Ms.Rai walked theCannes for the very first time in 2002 - for her movie premiere of 'Devdas'. Since then, we have seen her look her absolute worst and best at Cannes , take a look.
Her 2002 looks were traditional, very much staying true to her Bollywood actress persona. Considering fashion wasn't what it is today - in reach and in expectation - and she was attending the premiere of a Bollywood movie, it wasn't a debut one could complain about.
In her stint as part of the Jury at theCannes in 2003, I think Aishwarya looked her worst, ever.
It was one fashion disaster after the other, from her choice of gaudy and garish Neeta Lulla outfits to the styling and overload of gold/traditional accessories, casting serious doubts on the taste levels.
She later explained a foot injury as the reason for opting for flats, but nothing can excuse the shudder inducing outfits that fashion critics and fans rightfully ripped apart.
2004 saw Aishwarya moving out of the Bollywood groove, albeit slowly. She wore a Roberto Cavalli cut-out gown to the opening ceremony and had the hair and make up right. But the cut out gown did nothing for her stunning face or her figure, it was at worst an attempt at bringing sexy to the red carpet gone bad.
Her styling in the following appearances got better, beginning to erase memories of the tacky outfits from 2003.

Aishwarya finally brought her A game to Cannes in 2005, at the Premiere of ' Lemming', she dazzled in a black Gucci gown. In an appearance where she posed with fellow L'Oreal spokesperson Latitia Casta, she looked Cannes worthy, sexy, elegant and had a head to toe perfect look.

ReplyDeleteWowza!
ReplyDeleteDon't feel so horrible about my bad pics from graduation now that I see this was how the world's most beautiful woman looked like!
Thank you for posting this Rabitha. Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteAsh needed some serious style intervention glad she got there eventually.
Lol! I hope her current stylist is being paid a hundred times more than whoever was styling her then.
ReplyDeleteNeeta Lulla should stop calling herself a designer, the green sari looked like a fisherwoman's work gear.
